Preparing the healthcare providers of tomorrow, today.
A Medical Scribe can be found working with physicians and other medical providers in a variety of settings including but not limited to the Emergency Department and Outpatient Specialty Clinics. To put simply, the Medical Scribe completes the documentation work that the Physician would do if the Medical Scribe was not there. This documentation includes the patient’s History of Present Illness (HPI), Review of Systems (ROS), Past Medical or Surgical History (PMH), Physical Examination (PEx), and imaging and laboratory study results. The Medical Scribe helps to facilitate workflow efficiency for the medical provider, granting them more time to focus on the non-clerical-based work and face-to-face patient interactions. Additionally, Medical Scribes may assist the medical provider by gathering and organizing any necessary paperwork including EKGs and external imaging reports for documentation.
As a Medical Scribe, you will be immersed into the field of medicine, exposing you to the numerous pathologies, medical terminology, and hospital or clinic workflow. Taking the Emergency Department Medical Scribe for example, working one-on-one with an ER Physician not only gives you the opportunity to learn how to accurately and efficiently document a patient’s history and medical record but it also allows you to witness first-hand the ER workflow, hear the commonly used medical terms, and see each patient’s symptoms and complaints.
Most pre-medical and pre-health students give up their valuable time to shadow physicians as a volunteer. As a Medical Scribe, you have the opportunity to be monetarily compensated for your time while gaining the unparalleled experience. Volunteers are restricted to primarily shadowing. While Medical Scribes do not have hands-on interaction with patients, they are very much involved in the patient’s care in terms of documentation and are oftentimes considered as part of the clinic or department healthcare team.
Through completion of the Medical Scribe Prep Academy courses, you will be one step ahead of the curve. Our courses are designed to prepare the inexperienced applicant to be a competitive and successful Medical Scribe, increasing your chances of obtaining a Medical Scribe position with many reputable Medical Scribe companies. In addition, you will come to find yourself well-prepared for medical documentation when you begin your healthcare career. With completion of the MSPA course, you will receive a Medical Scribe Certification that details the amount of hours and courses that you successfully completed.
There is no better way to solidify your understanding of our course concepts than to put it to practice. MSPA has come to find that there are no courses out there that offer the amount of practice examples, simulations, quizzes, and exams to help put your knowledge to the test. Through numerous years of scribing, our founders have discovered that you become a better Medical Scribe with documentation exposure and practice. Therefore, we made sure to incorporate numerous practice cases and simulations so our students, and future healthcare providers, can be well-prepared.
